Let us help you with your CV

At Rochester Recruitment we believe that in a competitive job market, it's important to stand out from the crowd, and having a robust CV and cover letter will boost your chances of securing the role that you seek.

The guidance below will help you to produce a professional CV that covers the main points that employers look for.

Industry Qualifications

Detailing the relevant professional qualifications that you possess lets employers know that you are trained and competent for the job that you are applying for, for example if you hold a valid CISRS part 2 card, a potential employer will know you are qualified to erect and dismantle basic scaffolding structures.

Personal account

Why are you applying for the position? What knowledge and skills have you got that puts you ahead of the competition? Be clear and concise with your vocabulary and provide solid examples of previous accomplishments that will resonate with an employer. This section should be made-to-measure to fit the role that you’re applying for.

Employment History

Really use this section to promote yourself further and detail your daily activities, responsibilities and achievements. What did you bring to the table that really made a difference?

If you work in the construction or civil engineering industry, detail what projects and their value also any phase that you worked on and if it was delivered on time and within budget.

A prestige project would likely grab an employer's attention. A shift manager at a national distribution company may highlight their organisational skills and demonstrate how they brought in new processes and procedures to improve operations at their warehouse.

A few points to note:

  • Personal accomplishments.

  • Well known and reputable clients.

  • Any managerial or supervisory roles.

  • Type of contract.

  • What was involved with the project or job role.

It’s important that your employment history is listed in reverse chronological order with your most recent position first then working backwards.

Education

Here you can add information about any further education that you may have completed, whether it’s a degree achieved at university, industry recognised qualifications like a CSCS and SMSTS cards, first aid at work or even courses undertaken in-house like team building exercises etc. Education related to the job role you seek will always be hugely beneficial.

References

It's not a necessity to list actual individuals or companies, including "references available upon request" is sufficient enough as your CV ideally doesn't want to be more than two A4 pages.
